72 percent of survey respondents reported that they had experienced abdominal pain or diarrhea in the month prior to receiving the filter. When asked if they had experienced this since they began using the filters, only 8 percent of them reported that they had.

New volunteer computing teacher, Kandy Valle, has arrived, bringing with him his generous donation of 8 laptops for the children studying here at SSF. Learning IT provides the children with the invaluable opportunity of gaining employment in a fast developing Cambodia. Previously in lessons, many students had to squeeze round one screen, but now with a total of fifteen computers, no more than two share the same computer in any one class.

80% of Cambodian populations are farmers but they don’t have enough rice fields and rainfall isn’t sufficiency for crops growing. Dry season is taken longer than wet. 57% of Kampong Speu residents are lived under poverty line that their revenue is less than one US dollar a day, according to poverty profile made by Cambodian government in 2004.

Together for Rights

Project Description

The objective of the Together for Rights is to mobilize young Cambodian people at-high risk for being trafficked that are under taken care by the Sao Sary Foundation to become global citizens and human rights activists. Therefore, it's about young people who are concerned and passionate about human rights, coming together to create awareness, and for the students themselves to activate people to act in the defense and promotion of Human Rights. Using creative and innovative means, young people have the ability to reach out to peers, schools and beyond to support Sao Sary Foundation, UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Cambodia, in working for a more just world. By undertaking this challenge the students develop into global citizens concerned about global issues.

Objectives

The objective of the Together for Rights is to mobilize young Cambodian people at-high risk for being trafficked that are under taken care by the Sao Sary Foundation to become global citizens and human rights activists.

Outputs Expectation

  • SSF will contact to EWMI or other legal organizations to make collaboration agreement with expecting to get one trained lawyer or similar field student to assist SSF in conducting human rights training, curriculum development and other related/associated programs within the Project.
  • Said agreement will result at getting a qualified person to illustrate all produced documents [by OHCHR] such as booklets, posters and etc to SSF young people and we fully expect that our trained young people will able to copy and continue train to their classmates, friends and etc.
  • 50 SSF supported young people will be received training or awareness raising on specially universal human rights declaration as well as other related and associated document, leaflets, booklets and other that SSF received copies from OHCHR.
  • Other 150 young people who are the friends or classmates of SSF supported young people will be aware the learned topics by.
  • Other 450 new young people will also received awareness raising about through 150 above.
  • At least two competitive programs will be organized to select best of the best young people who can receive wining learning award from the Project on trained/learned subjects. The completive program will broadcast via radio or TV if possible to disseminate about our event with aiming to share the knowledge with other audiences.
  • At least ten young people will be received human rights learning award from SSF.
  • Disseminating human rights knowledge, awareness and understanding to educators


Expected Accomplishments

  • Proposed staff which will be in-charge to the Project will acquire more knowledge and experience through his/her working experience at this project.
  • All SSF supported young people will gain more knowledge regarding human rights basing on received documents.
  • Learned children can copy the learned knowledge and share to unlearned young people about.
  • Positive attitudes and respect for human rights will be promoted and adopted,
  • Positive attitudes and respect for human Rights will be changed for trained or received awareness raising persons.
  • The realization of civil, cultural, economic, political, and social rights, including the right to development is paid equal attention.
  • Human rights violations due to ignorance is reduced
  • Learn children how to make human rights a daily reality in their community
  • Increase and spread out knowledge on the human rights are ongoing to those trained and learned young people following to pyramid strategy.
  • Human rights violations due to ignorance will be reduce

  • # of young people will be awarded by the Project
