For a long time I have the dream of volunteering at a school or an orphanage in a poor country like Laos or Cambodia. So when I traveled during my first Southeast Asia-journey to Cambodia I fortunately found the great organization SSF in Kampong Speu.

Here I got the chance to volunteer as an English teacher for 3 weeks (26.01.10-16.02.10). Playing some games for learning new words, finding out the right way of pronouncing words or playing role-games caused the children enjoyable lessons...and especially for me unforgettable memories J ! But I also could experience how the 15 children who stay here, learn about raising chicken, growing plants, doing housework and also different kinds of business. I’m really enthusiastic about that way of education! They get prepared for the daily life in their future, how to stand on their own feet. Furthermore the children have here the chance to study the very important subjects English and Computer, so they get the chance to get a good job.

Another impressive experience for me was accompanying the organization on the daily trip to the villages where SSF supports very poor families. Advice how to grow plants, raise animals, lead a little supermarket is the way the organization helps the people to help themselves. I could see the poor people struggling for an improvement of the way of living of their big families (at least 6 members!). realizing motivated and hopeful, but also hopeless, crying people were very touching moments for me.

I had a really great, unforgettable time here at SSF! So Vichetr! I thank you so much that you enabled me to experience the great work of your organization. I felt really well living in your big family with all the kids. I wish you altogether only the best.

Thank you so much!
