As usual SSF has its mechanism to follow up every supported case at their original families weekly. Weekly follow up will connect SSF and its beneficiaries to ensure they can be done their home-based small business successfully as well as increasing trust among beneficiaries to the organization. Cambodians when become to poor they always live isolate and it is far to reach social services provided. Poor experience discrimination from rich while rich people really don’t want to touch with the poor as they worry becoming to poor like them.

On 21 December 2009, our Livelihood Program Coordinator conducted field visit to Kraing Rohong where SSF partnered with GO to implement integrated community development program assisting 30 poorest households who live in this community. Through the partnership, in April 2009 a 32 meters depth hand-pump well was built. It plays a vital role stopping those poor from buying water to supply their daily need as well as beginning the wells of opportunity. Those 30 families began their home-grown organic gardens in their yards with initiation of SSF. The garden is to build secure food for their families, preventing children and their mothers from malnourishment as well as creation of an income generating means if surplus. At least US$ 30 was able to save by each family a year right now, the residents stressed.
Rin Aek family is one among other families within this village that they began their home-grown garden since the well was established. They adopt SSF consequent growing method to grow which is possible harvest consequently. Rin woke up early morning to water his garden before going to the rice field and he backs home earlier than other household members every day as he needs to water it again for the evening session even though they are too busy with their rice field during the months of December to February as it is harvest time in Cambodia. Rin and at least other 10 families within the village weren’t giving up gardens this harvest season. Rin illustrates us the important position of his garden as it can produce enough vegetable supplying to his family needs as well as they can sell out to the market as well. Four times already that his family harvested and it could profit him a little like US$ 40 beside of supplying his domestic consumption.

As seeing his hard work and endeavor, SSF wants to develop Rin and his family to be a demo family. Rin as well as other four family representatives discuss their possibilities to do so as well as sharing us their concerns generally regarding to their daily likelihood. They concern seriously to their aliveness tomorrow as this year they experienced with the rainfall was too late with a short period it had. Rin is very interest and promised to work hard with his garden if SSF could help his family a little to reduce him from carrying water from the pump-well at least 100 per day. SSF studies his request and found that it could be possible if we could construct a small water basin closest to his garden. The 3Mx1.5Mx1M basin will cost about US$ 60. SSF will not possible to pledge him any amount due to SSF faces with financial crisis and still looking for generous donors or partners to partner with SSF helping those vulnerable.
